Welcome to the Epistemology website!
Our research team addresses a variety of questions about knowledge, the mind, and communication, with a focus on their social dimensions and through an interdisciplinary approach.
We study mental fragmentation, examining how beliefs and actions can diverge; self-knowledge and first-person authority, exploring how people—including children and others often overlooked—can communicate their mental states in ways that ground deference; communication, investigating its ontogenetic origins in human development as well as concepts of meaning; and knowledge by lived experience, highlighting how first-hand experiences can provide unique epistemic insight into certain phenomena. Across all areas, we combine philosophical analysis with empirical research and emphasize the broader social and ethical relevance of our work.
